Lewis Hamilton has been given four penalty points after the first weekend of this season. As a result, the British driver now has a total of seven points to his name, making him the driver with the most penalty points in F1.

The Mercedes driver already collected the first two points on Saturday during qualifying. Hamilton drove too fast when his teammate Valtteri Bottas caused a yellow flag when he left the track. This morning he was told he got penalty points and a grid penalty.

Twice in one weekend

During the race it went wrong again for the six-time world champion. Towards the end of the race, Alexander Albon seemed to be a lot faster than Hamilton and tried to overtake just after the safety car went in. Albon tried to go round the outside at turn 4 and got a slight tap from Hamilton causing the Red Bull to drop to the back of the grid. Hamilton was punished with a five-second penalty and two penalty points were added to his name.
