Mercedes confirmed on Friday morning that it will be driving with the DAS system during the Austrian Grand Prix, this weekend. Red Bull Racing responded immediately saying that they do not agree with this. The team of Max Verstappen demands a statement from the FIA.

Thanks to DAS (Dual-Axis Steering), Mercedes is able to change the position of the tyres, which allegedly allows them to warm up faster. There are also rumours that the concept allows for a higher top speed on the straights. Exactly how much profit the DAS system delivers is not yet known.

Red Bull wants clarity

Red Bull are very much wondering if the world champions have not violated the regulations with this. Speaking to Sky Sports, team boss Christian Horner explained that they are waiting to see if Mercedes will actually use the system and that they are very curious about which rule the DAS system falls under.

Chances are that Mercedes will test the DAS system during one of the free practice sessions. Stay informed through our live blog.
