Mercedes will no longer be seen in silver in 2020. In 2020 the silver arrows could rather be nicknamed the black panther, with their new black livery. Mercedes will thus fight against racism and supports driver Lewis Hamilton.

''In recent weeks, events around the world have reinforced the importance of continuing the fight against racism and all forms of discrimination. At Mercedes we know that the strength of our organisation lies in the diversity of our people and we are proud to use one of our most prominent global platforms to demonstrate our commitment to this fundamental principle of our society and our business," said Markus Schaefer, board member of Daimler AG.

Mercedes goes to war openly

''Racism and discrimination have no place in our society, our sport or our team: that's a core idea at Mercedes. But having the right beliefs and the right mentality is not enough if we remain silent. We want to use our voice and our global platform to advocate respect and equality, and the Silver Arrow will race in black throughout the 2020 season to demonstrate our commitment to greater diversity within our team and our sport,'' Toto Wolff adds in Mercedes' statement.

''We will not shy away from our weaknesses in this area, nor the progress we still have to make; our livery is our public promise to take positive action. We intend to find and attract the very best talents from as wide a range of backgrounds as possible, and to create credible routes for them to reach our sport, in order to build a stronger and more diverse team in the future", concludes the team boss of Mercedes.
