Jacques Villeneuve thinks Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc should fight for the world title this season. According to the world champion of 1997 this is exactly what Formula 1 wants.

Future of F1

"Or the future of Formula 1 from Leclerc and Verstappen? That's what Formula 1 wants. History has taught us that the best seasons in the sport are those with strong rivalry between two or three drivers, who don't have to be friends", said Villeneuve to Gazzeta dello Sport.

Formula 1 hasn't really had a big fight for the title for years. Since the V6 turbo era it only remained exciting in 2014 and 2016 until the last race. In 2017 and 2018 Vettel always threw a spanner in the works, especially in the first half of the season, but was unable to continue this until after the summer. Which meant that Lewis Hamilton would be crowned champion every year since 2017.

Verstappen is ready for it

"Since the fight between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in 2016, we haven't seen anything like it. Verstappen is ready for that role, Leclerc must show this season if he is the right man to be that other rival", ends Villeneuve.
