Formula 1 will start again with the Austrian Grand Prix, but not everything will be the same. For example, everyone will have to wear a mouth shield and that's not fun for every staff member in Formula 1.

Mouth caps are a problem

''For the guys in the garage, it's really hard to wear a mask all the time. We'll get used to it and you know we have to. That's how we always have them on in the garage'', says the sports director of Ferrari, Laurent Mekies, opposite Motorsport-total.com.

Ferrari has already tested at Mugello with Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc, who were both allowed to enter the Ferrari of 2018 in order to drive as many laps as possible on the circuit that can be used for a Formula 1 race later this season. A number of things already stood out during those tests.

Several bubbles

"If there's a problem with the other car, they can help each other. It's not a rule that you have to live in your own bubble. You have to live in a bubble as a team, but within that bubble you can make different subgroups,'' says Mekies, who doesn't expect staff members to forget precautions.

''That certainly won't be a factor. If we can't keep a distance from each other, that mouth guard must always be present for protection. We will do everything we can to work as safely as possible and there will be no possibility to have a little more freedom in it. That protection is just the norm'', Mekies concludes.
