Formula 1 will start next weekend with the Austrian Grand Prix and then the Styrian Grand Prix on the same circuit. However, the Red Bull Ring has taken numerous precautions because the COVID-19 pandamic is far from over.
The hard work starts on Thursday for Eurofins Genomics, which will perform the tests around the Formula 1 race weekend. The biotech company will start the tests on the Thursday prior to the first race on the Red Bull Ring and will do a huge amount of testing during the two race weekends.
Busy corona tests
''There are about 3,000 people on the circuit who come into important zones, so they all need to be tested. People may only enter the circuit if they can pass a negative test from up to four days ago," says Siegfried Schnabl, Managing Director of Eurofins Genomics, to Styria's ORF.
The fact that people have to take a test every four days causes a lot of hustle and bustle at the bietech company. ''During the two weekends, 10,000 to 12,000 tests will be carried out," says Schnabl, and the whole process will have to be tight, as the distances will also have to be guaranteed there.
