The deal between Ferrari and the FIA came out of the blue after the winter tests in Barcelona and put a lot of teams and fans in bad blood. Now months later, however, Jean Todt still believes that it was the right choice.

The Ferrari deal

The whole discussion takes us back to 2019, where Ferrari suddenly comes out of the starting blocks very quickly after the summer break. The Ferrari engine is much faster than before the break and teams are openly wondering how this is possible. Mercedes and Red Bull Racing come behind the trick and put it to the FIA. A clarification of the regulations by the FIA then ensures that Ferrari no longer wins a race.

Although Ferrari can no longer win, it seems obvious that Ferrari has colored outside the lines, but the FIA refuses to investigate. However, after the winter test in Barcelona, a message suddenly comes out about an agreement between Ferrari and the FIA, of which the other teams were not aware.

Todt under fire

Todt has been under fire ever since, but declares to Corriere della Sera that he will do the same next time. ''This is how it works. Give it a week and then everyone will forget about it again. When I took this job, I knew it would have positive and negative consequences. I just want to be transparent with the FIA and sometimes there are rumors'', says the President of the FIA.

''We have acted professionally and completely according to the rules. I certainly don't act in those situations myself,'' Todt concludes when asked if he would handle it that way again in the future. Whether the other teams will leave it at this statement is the question, because they still demand openness from the FIA and Ferrari.
