Sebastian Vettel leaves Ferrari at the end of the season and is replaced by Carlos Sainz. A missed opportunity for Kevin Magnussen to make the step to the top, according to the Dane himself.

''At the moment I can just focus on Haas and make sure we can reach a good place in the championship with the upcoming new regulations. With the new regulations and the budget cap I can look forward to racing much more,'' says Magnussen, whose contract offers an option for a seat in 2021.

Magnussen to Ferrari

''It's no secret that I, like many other drivers, dream of an opportunity at Ferrari, but it's all about timing. Sainz just had one good year and gets the chance to drive there. After 2018 I might have had a good chance. However, the reality is that we did not perform well enough last year and for an outsider it is difficult to assess how an individual did it. Ferrari has opted for the safe option in this respect," says Magnussen to Ekstra Bladet.

Does Magnussen still have hope for a seat on a top team? "I'm not unrealistic. I'm not gonna sit here and waste my chances. I'm gonna keep believing in my own. I have my dreams and every year I see what I can do to achieve my goal. That goal is still to become world champion and I still don't see that as impossible'', concludes the driver of Haas.
