The future of Valtteri Bottas at Mercedes seems increasingly uncertain. After Sebastian Vettel announced his departure at Ferrari, there were many rumours about the future of Bottas with the German team. The Finn has never really been able to challenge his team mate Lewis Hamilton, but has taken on the role of second driver as a good team player.

Bottas hasn't been worried about his future so far. "I only have one goal in mind for next season and that's what I'm going to focus on", Bottas says in a live stream on the Instagram account of F1. "If I can achieve that goal and meet the expectations of the team, I don't have to worry about my contract".

No making mistakes

However, it seems that several drivers are looking at Bottas' seat. Besides Vettel also George Russell seems to be a good candidate for Mercedes in 2021. The Brit will now be driving his second season at Williams, but seems to be ready to move to a bigger team.

Nevertheless it seems that Bottas is well in place. "Reducing the mistakes and maximising the races will be very important. Every mistake you make now is going to cost you more, because you have relatively fewer races. So it is important to continuously perform well. I am confident that I can do that," said Bottas.
