Vettel is not being considered by Mercedes, says Bottas
- GPblog.com
To date, Valtteri Bottas has been awarded a one-year contract every year with Mercedes and the Finnish driver would like to see a longer employment contract. At the end of this year his contract expires and it is not yet certain if he can stay. With the departure of Sebastian Vettel at Ferrari and the combination of a German team with a German driver, there has been a lot of speculation and so apparently Bottas was a bit worried, who made inquiries.
No more worries
Mercedes talks a bit cautious about possibly attracting Sebastian Vettel for 2021. All answers so far have not been concrete, but it is by no means ruled out. Valtteri Bottas, however, now comes with more clarity, as he told Sky Sports that he has made inquiries with the team himself.
“I got a pretty straight message that no, they're not considering Seb. So I said fine, no worries then.” So it's a clear story about Bottas, but as already mentioned it's not sure if he can stay with the team after 2021. However, he hopes that it will be an easy choice for Mercedes to keep him. In addition, he has also been able to amuse himself with all the rumors.
“It's the same as every year for me. I find it quite funny that with not even a single race done, there's been people getting my seat. It made me laugh! So there's no pressure from that side.” Furthermore, he will focus purely on his goal and he will see how it turns out.
"I have my clear goal for the season in my mind and that's it. Things will then sort themselves one way or another, whatever's going to happen. I've no stress about that at all."
