Nico Hulkenberg left Formula 1 at the end of 2019. A sabbatical was the answer to years of racing in Formula 1, but the big question now of course is whether the German will return to the grid in 2021?

Racing in a Lamborghini

Last week Hulkenberg suddenly caught the attention again because he appeared at the Nürgburgring with a Lamborghini. After months of not being in a racing car anymore, the German got back in a sports car for the first time and that made the rumour mill run wild. Is the German looking for another racing class?

''That was a bit for fun. It's a friend of mine who has that car and who sometimes drives on a circuit and who now asked me if I wanted to come along to do some driving'', says Hulkenberg in the broadcast of the Formula 1 Café of Ziggo Sport. However, the German does not live under a stone and has also followed the recents events in Formula 1.

Hulkenberg back to Formula 1

"The Silly Season, of course,is very interesting to follow. The fact that teams are arranging new drivers so early is unique, but I think it will be calmer now. The teams want to focus on racing. Carlos Sainz is also a good choice for Ferrari. He is fast and a very hard worker," says Nico.

Hulkenberg may have been in a Lamborghini, but F1 is still his goal. ''The Formula 1 book is certainly not closed yet, but teams must want me. If there is a good option, I will think about it. The break is nice, but I also want to race again'', concludes Hulkenberg, who calls Renault a serious option.
