Formula 1 stands up against racism. After a clear statement by Lewis Hamilton, more and more Formula 1 drivers make themselves heard on social media and support the protests and demonstrations in America.

Demonstrations in America

Even though George Floyd was handcuffed, policeman Derek Chauvin leaned on Floyd's neck for more than eight minutes. After six minutes the African-American became unconscious and would eventually be transported by ambulance to the hospital. Not much later, however, he was declared unconscious.

Because Floyd's death was filmed, this caused many demonstrations and riots in Minneapolis. It is the drop in the ocean for many residents who have been trying for some time to make it clear that there is racism in the police force, which soon makes Afro-Americans the victims of senseless police violence.

More support for Hamilton

Hamilton made a clear statement earlier in which he indicated that he felt alone in this struggle. According to Hamilton, Formula 1 is dominated by whites and he is one of a few to stand up for the Afro-Americans. However, this is no longer the case, because many drivers have answered Hamilton's call.

Lando Norris, Daniel Ricciardo, George Russell, Sergio Perez, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have already been heard on their social channels. It doesn't seem to stop here, because Hamilton's call has struck a chord with many.
