Fernando Alonso is widely associated with the vacated seat at Renault for 2021 and he receives support from many angles. For example, Zak Brown already indicated that Renault should take it and now Alonso also gets support from his own country.

Carlos Sainz always speaks full of praise of his idol Fernando and it is not surprising that father Sainz is happy that Fernando is again associated with a seat in Formula 1. Alonso became the first Spanish World Champion in 2005 and made F1 much known in Spain. According to Sainz senior it would be good if Alonso returns.

Alonso to Renault

"Fernando has the right to decide what he wants. Of course I would love to see him on the track, but he knows better than anyone what is best'', says the triple Dakar winner against the Italian Sky Sports. So where Brown recommends him to Renault, Sainz does not.

''As a friend and fan of Alonso, I will always respect what he decides. It is his choice and we have to accept it'', says Sainz. Alonso has driven for Renault twice before. He won the world title in Formula 1 during his first period with the race stable, but his return in 2008 was much less, after which he left for Ferrari in 2010. It remains to be seen whether Alonso will return to Renault after all.
