There were rumours that Sebastian Vettel could leave for Aston Martin in 2021, but Otmar Szafnauer has put an end to that, as the current Racing Point already knows who the drivers will be for 2021.

No Vettel for Aston Martin

It didn't seem like a great opportunity for Vettel, but the fact that Aston Martin will be a big name in F1 from 2021 onwards will also attract big drivers. For the time being, however, the team is sticking with the drivers. Sergio Perez had already signed a contract until 2022 and Lance Stroll will also stay on as a driver.

''It's a crazy transfer season for 2021, while there isn't even racing in 2020 yet. It is of course true that there are Grand Prix winners on the market for 2021 and now even champions with Sebastian Vettel, but we prefer to work with the current drivers. If we get a good car we can also win races and possibly become champion," says Szafnauer at Radio Canada Sports.

Departure of Vettel a surprise

For Otmar it was a surprise that Vettel became available. ''I'm surprised Charles and Sebastian couldn't get through one door. Sebastian is a great driver who has achieved a lot in the sport. As a young driver he already won with Toro Rosso and he really deserves a place in F1'', concludes Szafnauer.

For Vettel there seem few options left in Formula 1. Mercedes is an option, but next to Lewis Hamilton it is not the most stable option and the same goes for Red Bull Racing. Whether Vettel, like Kimi Raikkonen, would like to join a smaller team is highly doubtful.
