Sergio Perez is still very much looking forward to the start of the 2020 season. After the winter test it seemed that the Racing Point of Perez and Lance Stroll had made a huge leap towards the top teams. That's why it was also a loss that the first Grand Prix in Australia had to be cancelled. Nevertheless Perez is still looking forward to the start of the season.

"Of course, it's hard to see the full potential during the test days. It is a kind of hide-and-seek game after all. However, I know Barcelona is not our strongest circuit. So we had high expectations for Australia", Perez told Motorsport.com. "We'd be very competitive there."

Aston Martin provides 'extra pressure'

Many F1 fans and people from the paddock think that the Racing Point has made a huge leap, because it is a copy of the Mercedes. The difference with the Racing Point from a year earlier was at least visible and also tangible for Perez. "It drives a bit different, especially in how you adjust it. It's actually a completely new car. We still have a lot to learn from it."

Perez joined the then Force India when the team was in huge debt. A few years later, the team is much healthier financially and a takeover of Aston Martin is planned for 2021. "It's a boost for the team, but of course it's also going to involve extra pressure. I just think that pressure is exactly what we will need to take that extra step again," Perez said.
