Alexander Albon joined Red Bull Racing halfway through the year and only had half a season to prove himself. He did, because this season he will once again be competing for the top team. The fact that he still lags a bit behind Max Verstappen is somewhat obvious, but Albon does see that he has to narrow the gap. He also has ideas how he can do that.

Relatively new

Since his move to Red Bull Racing, he's had a new team around him. That takes time to get used to and relationships need to be built up, but nonetheless things are going well. "My side of the garage is relatively new", says Albon on the Formula 1 website, "It’s a relationship which needs building. It’s only been six or seven months we’ve been together, so it’s still learning, it’s still new."

Based on his results, he and his team look for areas for improvement and goals have also been set. Max Verstappen equalling is not a requirement, you can read between the lines, but the gap must be smaller. Also a goal that every driver should have by nature. In any case Albon knows where the chances lie.

Points found

"We sat together and developed areas I need to work on, established where we want to be in our goals, and that makes it clear for all of us. It feels really good. I know what I need to work on, but also, there’s knowing it, but then there is understanding what to do and how to get the most out of the situation."

"We have some ideas of what we need to target to get the car and myself in a better window." This with the aim of getting closer to Max Verstappen, but unfortunately we haven't been able to see if it will be enough yet. As soon as the season starts, Albon will focus on his new goals.
