Good news for Formula 1 from Austria Tuesday afternoon: there has been no increase in the number of infections since the country has been out of lockdown. On 14 April Austria was the first country in Europe to slowly return to normal life by opening smaller shops.

Helmut Marko recently indicated that only a second wave of coronavirus infections could cause the Austrian GP to fail in early July. Now that the government has indicated that there have not been exorbitant more cases of infection, nothing seems to stand in the way of a Grand Prix weekend at the Red Bull Ring.

Austrian government positive

"We have no evidence of a noticeable increase in individual areas," said Health Minister Rudolf Anschober. "The situation is very constant, very stable and that's really a very, very positive, good situation." However, Anschober does warn that alertness is still needed and that the population must continue to comply with the rules that are still in place.

So all the lights seem to be on green, but the Formula 1 security plan still has to be approved by the authorities. The final 'yes' vote will only follow below.
