A budget cap and frozen developments should ensure that the costs for Formula 1 teams are reduced so Formula 1 can survive. However, according to Andrew Green, the cars in 2021 will not be exactly the same as in 2020.

Still other cars

It's not a bad side effect for the neutral viewer. Because of the coronavirus, Formula 1 is at a standstill for a while, but once it's on the road again, a budget cap and the frozen regulations will help with an exciting season in 2020 and 2021. Still, it is not to be expected that exactly the same cars will be at the start of the season in 2021.

That's what Green, technical director of Racing Point, says to Motorsport.com. ''People are busy moving as much as possible from the 2020 car on to the 2021 car and that will certainly help reducing the costs. The car can't be developed now because of the rules, but also because everyone has to sit at home'', says Green.

The pink Mercedes

''There are no major changes, but when we arrive in Melbourne the cars look different. However, the vast majority will correspond with the old car, as has now been established'', said Green, who also looks back on the critiques surrounding the 'pink Mercedes'.

''Prior to the test we thought: 'If this doesn't work out, it will only be for one year'. But that's not the case now, but fortunately the car turned out to be much better than expected, so we don't have to worry about the next 18 months'', concludes Green, who seems to have delivered a strong car with his team, by looking closely at Mercedes.
