Simon Pagenaud became champion of the IndyCar Series in 2016 and in 2019 he won the prestigious Indianapolis 500 competition. This weekend, however, the Frenchman made a huge mistake by announcing online that he would intentionally knock Lando Norris out of the race and fulfill this promise. Norris and McLaren boss Zak Brown are astonished.

After the incident Norris decided to call Max Verstappen, who expressed his disbelief. Norris was leading the virtual IndyCar game when Pageanud slowed down considerably and deliberately hit the young Briton. That action was said to be retaliation for an incident several laps before, when Pagenaud was forced to relinquish the lead after an action by Norris.

Pagenaud had to go to the pit lane and then announced: "We take out Lando, let’s do it," The 35 year old IndyCar-pilot said after the crash of Norris: "Oh, I was pitting, I didn't mean to crash him". Noris says about the incident: "Even his spotter says, 'Let’s frickin do this.' Yeah, bold strategy, mate,. It's amazing."

Also Brown full of misunderstanding

Norris continues his story. "I even said it before, 'Pagenaud’s about to take me out,' and my spotter was like, 'Yeah we’ll see about that.' Two seconds later, I’m flipping around. What a loser", said the 20-year-old driver, who gets support from Brown on Twitter. "This is not what you expect from a champion."
