The contract of Sebastian Vettel expires at Ferrari at the end of this year. When the German leaves the team, Marc Surer will see suitable successors in Daniel Ricciardo and Carlos Sainz.

While the season is temporarily put on hold, Vettel will be busy talking to Ferrari about a new contract. Rumour has it that there is a proposal ready for him, but he will have to sacrifice a large part of his salary. As a result, the four-time world champion may decide to leave the team.

Ferrari might have to look for a replacement, where they can fish out of a big pond. At the moment only six drivers have a contract for next season. Former F1 driver Marc Surer would know what he would be aiming for. "Daniel Ricciardo and Carlos Sainz would be big number two drivers", he says in an interview with Speedweek.com.

Who should drive next to Leclerc?

"Ricciardo knows how to win races, so he'd be the better choice. He's mature enough to assess situations well and if there's a chance to win, he strikes. He's proven that several times. In the meantime Sainz wouldn't be able to endanger Charles Leclerc", the Swiss explains.

In addition to the two big names, Ferrari also has a driver from their academy in Antonio Giovinazzi, but according to Surer that driver is not suitable. "I don't know where he can stay in the future. He took too long to score points, he made a lot of mistakes. He only beats Kimi if Raikkonen doesn't feel like racing."
