Recently Roberto Merhi was mentioned by multiple GP winner Daniel Ricciardo as one of the most underestimated drivers. The Spaniard is in turn impressed by Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. He also thinks Carlos Sainz is an excellent racer.

The ex-F1 rider lasted a year in the king's class with the Manor team. In front of Marca, the Spaniard is off the grid: "In my opinion, the best drivers on the current grid are Lewis Hamilton and Verstappen."

Immediately the Spaniard mentions his compatriot as a strong third: "To be honest, Carlos was at the level of Max. During qualifying and races he rode the same pace as Max."

Sainz vs. Leclerc

According to Merhi, Sainz would not be out of place as a teammate of Charles Leclerc at Scuderia Ferrari. The Spaniard is occasionally associated with the Italian race stable now that contract negotiations with Sebastian Vettel are proving difficult.

The Spaniard thinks that Sainz would not be inferior to his possible future teammate: "Carlos has been able to keep up with Verstappen before, he would do the same with Leclerc without fear."
