Daniel Ricciardo may surprise some people in Formula 1. The Renault driver has indicated in an interview with Sky Sports that he does not rule out a return to former employer Red Bull Racing.

It was a surprise to everyone at Red Bull. somewhere in the summer of 2018 Ricciardo decided that he would accept an offer from Renault. He informed Christian Horner by phone who thought the Honey Badger was joking. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The first year at Renault was not an undivided success. The promises with which the French Ricciardo crossed the line turned out to be mostly promises so far. It has made the Australian think now that his contract expires at the end of this year.

Return to Red Bull

The Renault driver keeps all options open, including a return to the team he debuted for in 2014, although he hasn't put Red Bull at the top of his list: "I have to say honestly that a return to Red Bull hasn't occurred to me yet but that doesn't mean it's out of the question. I've learned that you shouldn't rule out any chance in life".

The chance of a return seems small since Horner and Marko were not happy with Ricciardo's choice. On the other hand, the flag could be very different as soon as Alexander Albon fails to perform when the season starts. Crazier things have happened in Formula 1.
