Ocon 'gets along well with Verstappen and they laugh about incidents'
- GPblog.com
Esteban Ocon and Max Verstappen have known each other for a very long time. From Karting and Formula 3 they are already competitors of each other. Although they have not often been in direct combat with each other in Formula 1, there is of course one incident that is etched in everyone's memory.
Verstappen was on his way to victory in the Grand Prix of Brazil 2018, when Ocon tapped the Dutchman in a spin and lost the lead. It could happen, you would say, if Ocon had already been put on a lap by the driver of Red Bull Racing. Verstappen was pretty upset about this after the race and gave Ocon a push at the weighting. Something for which he would eventually get a community service from the FIA.
Verstappen and Ocon get along well
Ocon now says in an interview with the French magazine AUTOhebdo that the two ruffs have never talked about this again and that their relationship is now completely in order. To prove this, he quotes an anecdote from the test session in Abu Dhabi at the end of last season.
On the last day that Ocon was there for the Mercedes team, he entered into a friendly fight with a McLaren and Red Bull car. He didn't know exactly who was behind the wheel, but the fight got a bit out of hand and in the hairpin the three of them almost crashed into each other. When they got out it turned out to be Verstappen and Lando Norris and they laughed a lot about the incident.
