Ricciardo's salary gets cut by Renault in negotiation with Abiteboul
- GPblog.com
The corona crisis puts a part of the Formula 1 teams under heavy financial pressure and the more races disappear from the calendar, the bigger their problems become. Cyril Abiteboul of Renault is therefore in favour of using the crisis to implement drastic measures.
Although Renault is not one of the teams that is already endangered by the crisis, it has become clear in recent weeks that Renault is one of the proponents of a further reduction of the budget limit. To achieve this, Abiteboul does not shy away from further freezing of the development of both the engines and other parts. Even the big earner within the team will not get away with it.
Ricciardo has to hand in part of his salary
In converstation with L'Equipe, the French team boss says he has already talked to Daniel Ricciardo about handing in his salary and the Australian agrees with this idea in principle. Only the details have yet to be negotiated, but Abiteboul assumes that Ricciardo will not make unreasonable demands that could endanger the team.
The fact that Abiteboul does not shrink back from a hard position at the negotiating table is also demonstrated by the fact that at Renault they are already taking into account a possible departure of Max Verstappen's former team mate at Red Bull Racing. Abiteboul is already in talks with some drivers from Renault's junior programme to replace him.
