One sports event after another is currently being postponed. For Formula 1, the next race is scheduled in Canada, on June 14. But whether we will actually be racing then, remains to be seen.

A Grand Prix as soon as possible

Still, it is important for Formula 1 to race as fast as possible, because otherwise the teams will run into serious financial problems. "If we don't race at all this season, I think all teams will have huge financial problems," Franz Tost said to Motosport-Magazin.com.

Formula 1 has already taken the first measures: the summer break has been brought forward and each team has to close its factory for at least three weeks in March and/or April. In addition, it now gives the opportunity to give races that have been postponed a spot on the calendar in August.

Postponement

Then the new rules that would apply for 2021 would also be postponed until 2022. This is something that Franz Tost is very happy with. "It would have been absolute madness to do a double development this year under the given circumstances", says the AlphaTauri team boss. "Thank God common sense prevailed here."

The chassis' of 2020 will also last an extra year. This means that the most expensive part of the car will not be further developed for the 2021 season. The homologation of other parts is still under discussion.
