David Richards hopes that Liberty Media will continue to closely monitor the financial situation of the Formula 1 teams. According to the chairman of the Motorsport UK, it could well be that Williams and Racing Point will be in serious trouble.

“A lot will depend on the way Formula One behaves throughout this", Richards tells PA News Agency. The former team boss of BAR believes that Liberty Media as owner should lend a helping hand to the teams. “F1 cannot afford to lose teams at the back of the grid because that would be a disaster for them."

Is Liberty going to do what Ecclestone did

Richards draws the comparison with Bernie Ecclestone, the previous owner of the king's class of motor racing. “Bernie made sure that when there were tough times the smaller teams were looked after and I hope that Liberty see the common sense in that, too", said Richards, who doesn't talk about big brands like Mercedes and Renault.

"But if you look at Williams and Racing Point, for example, it is not going to be easy for them. There is a distinct danger of operations going out of business. There will be motorsport companies who do not have the resources to get through this period. It is going to be a real challenge", concludes Richards.
