Breaking: Formula 1 launches virtual Grand Prix series following postponed races
A number of current drivers on the Formula 1 grid will be competing in an esports series as a result of the postponed races. Formula 1 will not return to the track until at least June due to the coronavirus outbreak and to keep fans entertained, Formula 1 have put together an online series.
The Virtual Bahrain Grand Prix will take place this weekend, as this is the weekend that the actual race was scheduled for. The list of drivers is not yet confirmed, but a number of stars are reported to have thrown their hat into the ring.
They will be joined by a range of different stars from elsewhere. The race is scheduled to start at 8pm UK time and will be broadcast live on the F1 social media channels. The race will be 50% real distance.
Julia Tan, Head of Digital Business Initiatives and ESports is pleased to ensure action will continue for fans around the world, despite the current problems.
"We are very pleased to be able to bring some light relief in the form of the F1 Esports Virtual GP, in these unpredictable times. As we hope to entertain fans missing the regular sporting action," Tan said in the statement.

Two different alternative races occurred last weekend. One saw Max Verstappen storm to victory against a range of different drivers from different series. Meanwhile, Lando Norris took part in a race which featured stars from youtube and the esports series.
