Lewis Hamilton on minorities in sport: "I like to think I was part of that"
Lewis Hamilton believes that he has played a part in getting more minorities involved in motorsport. The six-time world champion is building a legacy and wants to be remembered for the good that he has done for the sport.
“When I look at the heritage, I look at the Williams sisters, I look at Tiger Woods and I watch them break the mold - and it's not just black people, it's having a mix, the minorities are coming by," Hamilton said to Squaremile.
“So whatever your race or ethnicity, it's great to see children from all walks of life trying to do the sport. And I like to think I was part of that. I'm certainly proud of that, but part of me also wants to put that behind me.
“There are so many elements, so honestly, I can't tell you what my heritage will look like in the future, but I can tell you that I will work as hard as I can to take the right steps so that I can take the biggest within and outside the sport.”
Hamilton will be remembered as one of the best to have ever raced in Formula 1 when he does retire. He also wants to be remembered for playing a part in making motorsport more diverse.
