Sergio Perez says Racing Point have closed the gap to top teams
Sergio Perez says that Racing Point have closed the gap to the top teams, but are not quite on the same level. Racing Point have made gains over the winter and looked strong at pre-season testing, with some tipping them to challenge Ferrari in the opening rounds, of course before all the postponements.
Formerly known as Force India, the team has undergone a lot in the last few years, with administration in summer 2018 and subsequent renaming.
The team will receive investment from Aston Martin for 2021, and with their Mercedes support, they could be a team worth watching out for.
The Mexican driver said last Thursday, before the Australian GP's postponement: "I think we definitely have a good car, but I think the top cars are still quite a bit ahead.
"The midfield group is very tight - so to get podiums you still rely on things happening to the top three.
"But we will see - I think probably we have closed up the gap. I don't know how much, I'm curious to find out. But we'll see if we can make [podiums] happen this year."
