Sebastian Vettel has said that “right now” he is not thinking about a new contract with Ferrari, instead focusing on making their SF1000 faster and insisting that his “hunger for success has not been satisfied”.

There has been quite a lot of speculation the past months surround the German’s future at the Scuderia beyond 2020.

There have also been suggestions Vettel could retire while Ferrari’s team principal Mattia Binotto has sated the four-time World Champion is their number one priority to drive alongside Charles Leclerc for 2021.

But the 32-year old isn’t thinking about next year, rather focusing on improving the current car to challenge Mercedes and Red Bull.

“For the time being, my focus is on this year,” Vettel told Auto Bild.

“I still love driving. But as a racer you don’t just want to drive, you want to win and we are currently not doing this enough. My hunger for success has not yet been satisfied.

“But my thinking right now is not about a new contract, but about solutions to make the car faster.”

Ferrari’s pre-season in Barcelona didn’t go as planned according to the team and have played down several suggestions they weren’t being true on their performance.

Will that change in Melbourne?
