Brawn: Drive to Survive fantastic for F1 despite it not being hugely profitable
Drive to Survive proved a hugely popular series on Netflix, so much so they renewed it for a second series that recently aired on the streaming platform. Ross Brawn has revealed that the show wasn't actually that profitable but it gave a great insight in the pinnacle of motorsport.
The second series followed narratives from Mercedes in Germany, the Pierre Gasly and Red Bull saga and Esteban Ocon's move to Renault among others. It provides an insight into life in motorsport's top tier and the trials and tribulations that go with it.
Despite it being very popular Ross Brawn has revealed it wasn't particularly profitable but it was worth it for greater reasons.
"Although [the deal with] Netflix wasn't overly profitable even for us, it was fantastic for Formula 1 in terms of greater range," Brawn said as quoted by Motorsport-Total.
"We found that it was also for non-racing Fans is very appealing. In fact, it made them fans!
"Some promoters said last season that the increased interest in Formula 1 was definitely measurable through the Netflix series.
"I think it's great to give fans the other side to show the Formula 1. Because most fans only see what happens on the track - or the interviews on the track."
