LIVE: The first day of the F2 winter test in Bahrain

1 March 2020 at 08:31

Now that the test days for Formula 1 are over, it is time for the talents of Formula 2 to prepare for their upcoming season. On Sunday they can test their cars for the first time.

Six days to extensively test all cars in Formula 1 is seen by many as little time. In Formula 2, the teams must use their available time even better. The teams are at the Bahrain International Circuit from 1-3 March.

During the test days, we can see a number of familiar faces again, such as Artem Markelov, Noboharu Matsushita and Jack Aitken. With the promotion of Nyck de Vries and Nicholas Latifi, a number of rookies have of course also been added. For example, New Zealander Marcus Armstrong will ride for ART Grand Prix and the Russian Robert Shwartzman for Prema's team, alongside Mick Schumacher.

No problems with the coronavirus?

We had to wait and see if the winter test for the Formula 2 in Bahrain would go ahead. In the country, the coronavirus is already keeping a good deal at home, with already 23 confirmed cases of the virus. Due to the disease, Christian Lundgaard is also unable to participate. The Dane was at training camp on Tenerife where the coronavirus also broke out. He will be replaced for the winter test by former Formula 1 driver Sergey Sirotkin.
