Russell: "It's something Mercedes needs to get working on"
George Russell is starting his second season in Formula 1. On Friday, he looks back on recent winter tests and concludes that work needs to be done from the Mercedes point of view. Williams buy Mercedes' engine, which failed a number of times this week.
Problems with Mercedes also hit Williams
The winter tests did not always go as planned in the British racing tonight. But Claire Williams said earlier that most problems are engine problems. Something Williams themselves have little control over.
"Of course it is not ideal, but it is something that Mercedes should get working on. I'm sure they're going to see everything," Russell told GPblog and the other members of the press in Barcelona.
Still the slowest
"I know that we are in a better position than last season, but realistically we are still the slowest on the grid. We have improved well and we had to hope for that in the winter. We go to Melbourne and there we see it further. Last year when we drove faster than our car could, we still finished nineteenth and twentieth. I hope that when that happens this year, we will be a lot further forward," he added.
Russell ends the interview satisfied. “We have been able to drive many laps. It was risky, with the low temperatures. However, everyone was in the same boat. The team is going to the first race in Australia with a good feeling."
