Lewis Hamilton wins Laureus Sportsman award
Lewis Hamilton has won the Laureus Sportsman of the year award for the third time, sharing the award with Barcelona and Argentina footballer, Lionel Messi.
Hamilton won the award after winning his sixth World Drivers' Championship in 2019 moving him within one of Michael Schumacher's record. The Brit shares the award with Messi who won La Liga for the tenth time. Simone Biles won the Sportswomen of the year award for the third time.
After being presented with the award by Arsene Wenger, Hamilton spoke about the responsibility we all have to push diversity with in Formula 1.
"I grew up in a sport that has given my life meaning," said Hamilton.
"But I've grown up in a sport which has little to no diversity. It's an issue we are continually facing.
"It's all of our responsibilities to use our platform to push for gender equality and inclusivity. We have to make sure we are engaging and representing what the world is today."
