Stoffel Vandoorne set to become the new test driver at Mercedes AMG F1
Mercedes are set to announce their new test driver for the 2020 season after Esteban Ocon left the team at the end of last season. The team will announce their new driver at 17:00 and there are plenty of rumors suggesting who it could be.
Who is it?
According to F1Journaal.be, the new test driver for Mercedes will be Stoffel Vandoorne. The Belgian racer has proven himself to be very fast this year in Formula E and after three races he sits at the top of the championship.
In the series, Vandoorne is racing under the Mercedes badge so it makes sense for the team to collaborate between the two series.
Vandoorne is no stranger to Formula 1. He debuted for McLaren in 2016 as a substitute for the injured Fernando Alonso and did well enough to earn a full-time seat. However, he failed to impress and after a few seasons, Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz were brought in.
Mercedes officially announce their test driver at 17:00 this evening.
