Mercedes have recently announced that they will remain in Formula 1 until at least the end of 2021. Now the question is whether they will remain in the sport for the long term. According to Ross Brawn, there is no reason to doubt that they will be.

There have been a few rumors that some Formula 1 manufacturers are leaving the sport in the near future. However, Brawn doesn't believe that this is the case. "I see no indication of that," he said.

The Formula 1 managing director actually believes that many manufacturers will remain in the sport because the new budget cap which will be introduced in 2021 will enable then to financially afford it.

Budget cap offers certainty

Thanks to the budget cap teams have a better sense of the future and don't have to keep throwing money into a hole in order to be competitive. This was one of the key reasons for Mercedes remaining in the sport.

“We want Mercedes to feel that they get so much for their money that they will never stop. Because why should they too? They get a lot more in return for the amount they spend," Brawn said to Motorsport.com.

The budget cap provides certainty and as well as increasing the competitiveness of the grid. It should encourage a number of teams to remain in the sport and cement the future of Formula 1.
