Marko skeptical anyone can afford Hamilton "not even Mercedes"
Lewis Hamilton being a six-time World Champion demands a big contract and a lot of money but Helmut Marko believes that his current demands could be too much for even his current employers, Mercedes.
Hamilton won the first of his titles in 2008 with McLaren but since 2014, the Brit has been a class above the rest of the field winning five of the last six Drivers' Championships.
In 2019 the Mercedes driver was once again a different level, scoring his highest ever points tally and wrapping up the title at the US Grand Prix. However, his contract with the Silver Arrows is up at the end of next season and Marko is scepticle as to whether his current employers will be able to afford him.
“Lewis is a six-time world champion and very important for Mercedes in terms of both sport and marketing,” Marko told Auto Bild.
“I think that he is aware of his value and from there he pushes towards certain requests…
"I believe that no team, not even Mercedes, will be willing to spend such sums on a driver. Or maybe only Ferrari.”
