Kimi Raikkonen not bothered by breaking record for most GP starts!
As you might expect, Kimi Raikkonen says he isn't bothered about taking Rubens Barrichello's record for the most Grands Prix started in a career, a record he will break in 2020. The 40-year old will break the record at the Austrian Grand Prix as he starts for the 323rd time.
Raikkonen's career has nearly spanned two entire decades, with a break in the middle, but he insists his only ambition is to do the best he can for Alfa Romeo in 2020.
He said, according to GPToday.net, that the record isn't a big thing to him: "That doesn't do much to me. It doesn't give me anything, but I'm looking forward to going for it again.
"Hopefully we can improve ourselves this year, learn our lessons from what we have done right and wrong and hopefully we can get a little further to the front. Time will tell, because it is too early to say anything about it. As soon as the cars start driving at the first race, we will get a good idea."
How has Raikkonen reached this record?
The Finn made his debut with Sauber in 2001 and the year after made a move to McLaren. He won his first race at the 2003 Malaysian Grand Prix, finishing second in the championship that year.
A move to Ferrari for 2007 brought him the big prize, the world title. He left the team and the sport at the end of 2009 but returned in 2012 with Lotus, winning twice in two years with the team.
A five year spell back with Ferrari followed, including a very popular win at the 2018 US GP, before returning to what was Sauber, now Alfa Romeo in 2019.
