Romain Grosjean still wants to "have fun at the front" of the F1 grid!
Romain Grosjean has had a tough couple of years in F1 recently, with some suggesting he was fortunate to retain his Haas seat for 2020. The Frenchman has had a long career in the sport and revealed that retiring has crossed his mind, although he still wants to stay and fight for the top positions.
Haas passed up the opportunity to sign Nico Hulkenberg to keep Grosjean, a move that left plenty confused, but it is now down to the former Lotus driver to show what he is capable of.
He told F1only.fr: “Yes I already thought about it (retirement) as after Formula 1 I have a lot of plans. “But 33 years old is still young. We can see Kimi [Raikkonen] who is 40-years-old and who is still driving very well.
“In any case, my idea, my desire for the moment, is to stay in Formula 1. To find a competitive car to be able to have fun at the front.
“If that’s the case, I will stay in Formula 1, because I like it, because I like to travel, I like challenges and because it is my passion.”
Has Grosjean still got it?
Based on his performance last year, it's easy to say no. Just eight points was a poor return for Grosjean, less than half of the tally teammate Kevin Magnussen achieved.
Despite this, there is still a good driver in there. He has 10 podiums in F1 and in glimpses has shown his talent recently. If he can find that sweet spot more consistently, perhaps fans will accept maybe Haas made the right call.
