Nicholas Latifi will race with a former F1 world champion's car number
Nicholas Latifi will revive Nico Rosberg's F1 car number for the 2020 season. The Williams driver is set to make his debut in the Australian Grand Prix and will compete under the number six which was last used in Rosberg's world championship-winning season with Mercedes.
In the days following his 2016 championship victory in Abu Dhabi, Rosberg announced his retirement. The F1 rules state that a number must be left dormant for two seasons following its last use meaning it became available for the 2019 season.
In a tweet, Latifi announced the number he will be racing with and it has nothing to do with Rosberg or his title win.
"I decided to choose number six. The reason I chose this is because I'm from Toronto, and Toronto is known as 'The Six', basically, because if you're from there, your area code for your phone number is either 416 or 617. It's a bit silly, but it kind of stuck, so I decided to choose that," the Canadian said.
