George Russell says that Williams will be able to move forwards in 2020 to join the midfield battle following a horror 2019. Russell was unable to score a point as the team were off the pace of everyone all season, so surely things can only get better for the Brit.

However, the season wasn't a total disaster for Russell's reputation. He outqualified teammate Robert Kubica at every race and didn't get frustrated with the team, giving his all in every session.

Despite this, Russell will need better machinery to show his talent, which we know he has from his superb 2018 F2 season.

Russell told SpeedWeek.com: "I think it is a success to be able to fight in the midfield. Realistically speaking, this is probably the best possible result that we can achieve in 2020.

"We will certainly be able to take a big step forward, but of course we don't know what all the other teams will achieve. I really hope that we will be able to join the midfield again next year. It will not be like four or five years ago, but hopefully we will be able to at least have the chance to make it into Q2 every race weekend."

Russell will be joined by Canadian Nicholas Latifi in 2020 and will be expected to beat the Canadian, who finished second in F2 in 2019.
