Former Ferrari boss encourages Sebastian Vettel to "have confidence" in himself
Former Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemelo has encouraged Vettel to trust his own ability ahead of the 2020 season, as he looks to fight off the charge from Charles Leclerc. Vettel had another frustrating season in 2019, winning just once and finishing below Leclerc in the championship.
Vettel has notably struggled with wheel to wheel combat in the last couple of years, spinning under pressure from other drivers, but we did see glimpses of his extremem talent, most notably in Singapore, where he produced two fantastic safety car restarts.
With Leclerc signing a new five year deal, Vettel is under pressure to perform in 2020 to keep his seat at Ferrari.
And now di Montezemelo has encouraged him to relax and trust his ability, telling Sky Sport Italia: "Vettel must be calm, have confidence in his means which are very strong. He must have a very open dialogue with the team.
"When it comes to the end of contracts there are delicate years. In recent years he has proven to be always very fast and sooner or later the number one (at Ferrari) has to come out."
