Toto Wolff: "At the moment I have fun, I think it's the most important thing"
Toto Wolff has said that he does not want to manage Formula 1 and that instead, he is happy with his current role at Mercedes. Wolff has been linked with a role taking charge of Formula 1 but it is clear to see, for the moment at least, that he will stay with Mercedes.
“As an entrepreneur, you think about the long term, it was analyzed if Formula 1 will continue to evolve positively and I would say yes. Do we have a common goal with Daimler? Very clearly, again: yes . Daimler and Mercedes build road and racing cars, it's our central business and that's why we want to continue together,” Wolff said to Autosprint.CorriereDelloSport.
Wolff got into Formula 1 because of the racing and that is his passion and has hinted that he might even leave the sport completely.
"When Niki and I embarked on this adventure in 2013, we didn't do it just as 'employees' but we participated in the racing team. The question, therefore, does not concern only if I would accept a job elsewhere, but in general, if I will continue or not in Formula 1.
"At the moment I have fun, I think it's the most important thing. It is certainly less fun than when Niki was there but this work continues to give me motivation."
Wolff clearly misses Lauda and working for the team without him is not the same. However, he is still enjoying managinging the team and will continue to do it for the foreseeable future.
"Formula 1 is a very complex business, with sponsorships, televisions, and circuit contracts: no, at the moment I enjoy managing the team,” Wolff said when he was asked if he would take a job higher up.
