Daniel Ricciardo joined Renault from Aston Martin Red Bull Racing for the 2019 but endured a tough time of things, picking up just 54 points in total which saw him finish ninth in the constructors' standings.
"I think that would be the easiest and happiest situation possible, I wish that would happen," Ricciardo told the Sunday Herald Sun.
"In 2021, in addition, everything will change and the Formula 1 grid can be very agitated From the point of view of an amateur or a pilot who finishes the contract in 2020 it will be very interesting.
Renault did manage to finish fifth in the final constructors' standings, although they were 54 points behind the team above them, McLaren.
"I think my new teammate, Esteban Ocon, is the only one who has a contract beyond 2020. Neither the team nor I have talked about 2021, it's still very soon to do it".
