Rubens Barrichello on Michael Schumacher: "Naive in the way that he worked"
- Tom Mason
Rubens Barrichello feels that he gets on well with his former teammate Michael Schumacher, but added that the most successful F1 driver of all time only raced for himself and wasn't a good team player.
The Brazillian, Barrichello was a teammate of Schumacher's for six years between 2000-2005, taking nine wins in that time.
“I always made friends and I’ve always had a good relationship with all my team-mates,” Barrichello said on the Beyond the Grid podcast.
"He was never supportive. “He was never there to offer help so I never asked.
“There are team-mates that you can go and ask but you could see that he was different, he was a bit naive in the way that he worked.
“So many times we’d finish a meeting and then they’d start another one with just Michael there so I’d took my chair and would just sit there.
“Eventually I felt that the team was his.”
The 47-year-old registered 11 victories in his F1 career but never managed to secure a world championship, mostly down to being a driver when Schumacher was at his peak.
