Verstappen: Red Bull have made the right call with Albon
After impressing during the second half of the season, Alex Albon was confirmed as Red Bull's number two for next season. Max Verstappen believes it was the right call to keep on the Thai driver next season.
Albon was promoted to Red Bull to replace Pierre Gasly after the pair had contrasting fortunes in the opening half of the season. Gasly dropped down to Toro Rosso whilst Albon partnered Verstappen.
Albon's form since the turn of the summer break has been enough for him to keep the seat in the long term. His teammate believes it was the right call and highlighted some of his key attributes.
“He’s a nice guy and I think the last twelve months must have been a rollercoaster ride for him,” Verstappen said in Brazil.
“But he is a very relaxed and straightforward person and the whole team likes him too.
The question remains whether Albon can step up and really put pressure on Red Bull's rivals to help Max Verstappen to the title.
“He does his job, he is fast and he collects a lot of points, so that was probably the smartest choice for the near future. But it’s not really up to me to rate his performance."
