Marko says Red Bull "in no hurry" to decide 2020 drivers
Helmut Marko claims that Aston Martin Red Bull Racing are in no rush to decide who their drivers for the 2020 season will be, with the team still deciding whether to keep Alex Albon or revert back to Pierre Gasly. Gasly struggled in the first part of the season, leading to him being replaced by Albon, but his form at Toro Rosso has been fantastic since the summer break, leading to this selection headache.
Albon has been solid if unspectacular for Red Bull Racing in his six races so far, but the team may be worried about crashes in practice and qualifying, with the Thai driver ending sessions early in two of the last three races.
Marko previously said that the announcement would be before the Mexican Grand Prix, but adds that the decision will take longer now.
He told Autosport: "It was a mistake of mine to say that.
“I had in mind that Mexico would take place after the USA. Actually, it’s the other way around.
“But in the meantime, we have confirmed that all three drivers [Alex Albon, Pierre Gasly, Daniil Kvyat] will stay in our teams. Max’s situation is clear anyway. Now we’re in no hurry for when we decide who will drive in which team.”
