Williams F1 team boss Claire Williams says that the 2021 rules are exactly what is needed and she hopes there is no delay to the implementation of the rules. Williams have been the slowest car in the previous two seasons, with this year's car being well off the pace of any other team, scoring just one point all season.

Robert Kubica managed to finish tenth in a crazy German Grand Prix, but apart from that it has been a very tough ride for the team, who last won a race in 2012.

However, could these new regulations be a sign of hope for them? The team has struggled for money but a proposed budget cap could help even out the field, which may be why Williams is keen to have the rules introduced at the earliest possible time.

She told motorsport.com: “These regulations are coming out very late. We delayed them once back in August, they could be ready.

“We’ve been talking about this for two-and-half years now. They could absolutely be ready and in our opinion those regulations, the technical ones are ready.

“We’re very happy with what they look like. There’s clearly a few tweaks here and there that need to be done, which can be achieved even if they are published on the 31st of October.

“We don’t want any delay to those regulations for the sake of the sport but most importantly for the sake of teams like ours and other teams in a similar position to ours."
