Wolff admits Mercedes performance is lacking following lacklustre FP2
After Lewis Hamilton topped the standings in FP1, Mercedes were unable to replicate the performance in the second session and Toto Wolff has admitted they just aren't at the performance levels of their rivals.
Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton finished fourth and fifth in FP2 respectively but six-time World Champion to be Hamilton was almost a second back on leader Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton can secure his sixth World Championship this weekend but unless Mercedes can turn it around the title celebrations may have to be delayed.
Mercedes have been off the pace since the summer break despite securing two victories as rivals Ferrari make strides towards the front of the field. The Silver Arrows' team principal Toto Wolff admitted their performance at the moment is good enough and they expected it to be difficult for them.
"Not good enough. We know this is a difficult track for us," said Mercedes boss Toto Wolff to Sky Sports F1.
"We are just lacking performance."
