Alain Prost on managing the Ferrari situation: "It's only going to get harder"
It is no secret that Ferrari have had some difficulties managing their drivers this season. Four-time World Champion Alain Prost believes that things aren't going to get easier for the Italian team and that the situation will be harder to control in the next year.
Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc have an interesting relationship and this is heavily managed by the team. Leclerc is often complaining over the radio about team orders which seems to show that this is something that is not being managed well by the team.
Vettel started the season as the number one driver at the team but Prost believes that this can't be the case for next season.
"Because of his experience, Vettel was seen as the number one in the team," said Prost to RMC Sport. "It is very difficult to maintain that, certainly next year."
Prost believes that the difficulty has been that Ferrari wasn't expecting Leclerc to be so fast so soon. Ferrari are not used to managing young drivers and this is part of the reason for the mess that they are in.
“I think Ferrari will be very strong next year. Then they also have to deal with the fight between Charles and Sebastian. If the car is good and they both fight for the title, then this can give the title to Mercedes."
Ferrari need to get their act together if they are going to genuinely challenge Mercedes next season.
